What is a Remote Online Notary?

A remote online notary, or RON, is a commissioned notary public who is authorized to perform notarizations using secure two-way audio-visual technology over the internet. This method allows a signer and a notary to connect from different physical locations to complete a notarization.

The process is designed to be as secure as a traditional in-person notarization. It typically involves several steps: the signer uploads the electronic document, their identity is verified through a multi-factor authentication process (which can include knowledge-based questions and a review of their government-issued ID), and then they connect with the notary via a live video call. During the call, the notary witnesses the electronic signature and applies their own digital seal and electronic signature to the document. The entire session is recorded and a tamper-evident digital seal is applied to the document, ensuring its integrity and providing a robust audit trail. This modern approach offers greater convenience, accessibility, and efficiency for both the notary and the public.

Please call 318-351-1053 (Mobile) or 430-835-1043 (Office) to set an appointment.

What is a Notary Signing Agent?

A Notary Signing Agent (NSA) also known as a Loan Signing Agent, is a notary public who has specialized training to handle the notarization of loan and real estate documents. While all Notary Signing Agents are commissioned notaries, not all notaries are NSAs. Their role is to be an impartial witness and guide for the signer during the loan closing process, which often involves a large stack of complex documents.

The primary responsibilities of a Notary Signing Agent include printing and preparing loan document packages, verifying the identity of the signer, guiding them through where to sign, date, and initial, and then notarizing the necessary documents. After the signing is complete, they are responsible for ensuring the documents are returned to the lender or title company in a timely manner. It is crucial to note that NSAs cannot provide legal advice or explain the terms of the loan; they are strictly there to facilitate the signing process.
